THE BOXTIES SINGERS

  • The Boxties Singers is one of two ensembles under the Boxties Mentorship Program.

    The Boxties Singers is for more advanced singers with a good sense of pitch, who are expressive musicians, enthusiastic about making music with others.

    Program participants will have an immersive experience, rehearsing and performing alongside The Boxties. They will learn how to create musical meaning, to express that meaning in a way others can understand, and gain insight into music’s power to uplift and transform.

    Entry to the Boxties Singers is by audition.

  • The Boxties Singers rehearse regularly on Sundays at 11.00am - 12.30pm, with extra dress rehearsals and production rehearsals as we get closer to the concerts.

  • The Boxties Singers Fee: $1600

    Payment includes all rehearsals, dress rehearsals and performances.

  • Applications are now open for the 2025 Mentorship Program.

    Audition applications will close on Monday 28 October 2024.

    Audition times and material emailed to applicants on Monday 4 November 2024.

    Auditions will be held on Sunday 17 November 2024.

    Audition results emailed by Friday 22 November 2024.

  • Auditioning for the Boxties Singers is a 15-minute two-part process. You will begin with a solo audition which will be immediately followed by an ensemble audition.

    Solo Audition

    For your solo audition we would like you to prepare two songs of your own choice. We don’t mind if you choose short excerpts or something longer, as long as it’s something you can perform confidently. This is going to give you the best chance of performing well on the day and showing us what you can do.

    Ensemble Audition

    For this part of the audition we are looking at how you interact with an ensemble. You will be sent a short excerpt to prepare, that you will sing with members of the Boxties. We might ask you to sing in unison with others, or hold your own part in a group. Don’t panic! We know how daunting auditions can be, so we’ll be doing our best to put you at ease. All you need to do is be as prepared as possible so that you can sing your best.

  • The students of the Mentorship Program will present concerts at the end of the year.

  • The Boxties Singers is an immersive program. To benefit from this experience, participants must commit to attending weekly rehearsals, dress rehearsals and performances. Participants who are repeatedly absent will be asked to leave the program.
