The Boxties are a Brisbane-based ensemble whose music has roots in the classical, folk and contemporary worlds - music with great storytelling, truthfulness and emotional generosity at its heart.

They have presented their self-devised shows A Net of Souls, Bound Away to Leave You and City of Strangers to full houses at QPAC’s Cremorne Theatre, appeared in QPAC’s Songs of Hope and Healing concerts in the Brisbane Concert Hall and coordinated the FHEAL Community Choir in support of young refugees.

The Boxties love performing music in unusual spaces – bars, bottle shops, restaurants, bookshops, gift shops, galleries and wineries - places where it’s possible to create an intimate connection between the performer and audience and to bring music to people who might not typically set foot in a concert hall.

Working in such spaces has led to collaborations with like-minded chefs, sommeliers and art collectors, and to the creation of concert experiences that explore the myriad ways music, food, art and wine can evoke ideas, powerful emotions, and memories.

The Boxties are also highly experienced and innovative music educators.

Every year the Boxties run a mentorship program for advanced instrumentalists and singers, school workshops that cater to students of all year levels and abilities, and community music projects for people of mixed ages and cultural backgrounds, including Singing In Good Company - their flagship community choral project.

Their aim is always to engage people in expressive music-making, to open doors to can be difficult to put into words, but can ultimately be transformative.
